The New Jersey Jackals are seeking help from the community for our players. We are searching for host families in northern NJ to provide rooms for the players for the 2011 season. A host family provides a room in their home from the beginning of May through the middle of September. Host families are not responsible for meals.

JACKALS STUMBLE IN HOME FINALE

Despite a three-hit night by designated hitter Carlos Sosa and a pair of extra-base hits by center fielder Adam Godwin, the New Jersey Jackals dropped their regular-season home finale to the Pittsfield Colonials, 7-5, on Wednesday night at Yogi Berra Stadium.

With the win, the Colonials clinch a playoff spot after winning seven of their last eight games while the Jackals now trail the Worcester Tornadoes by one game for the fourth and final playoff slot. The Jackals have four games remaining while the Tornadoes have five contests left.

JACKALS SIGN FORMER CAN-AM LEAGUE ALL-STAR CARLOS SOSA

The New Jersey Jackals have announced the signing of outfielder Carlos Sosa. Sosa, a 28-year-old Dominican Republic native, was a Can-Am League All Star with the Worcester Tornadoes in 2009.

With Worcester last season, Sosa batted .314 with a career-high 15 home runs 69 RBIs in 83 games en-route to being named to the Can-Am League’s Postseason All-Star Team. Sosa ranked fifth in the league in batting average, fourth in RBIs, second in slugging percentage, and fifth in on-base percentage.

PAVLIK NAMED CAN-AM LEAGUE PITCHER OF THE WEEK

The Can-Am League has announced that New Jersey Jackals left-hander Isaac Pavlik has been named the Can-Am League Pitcher of the Week for the week ending July 25. This marks the fourth time in his career that Pavlik has received league Pitcher of the Week honors.

In his lone start last week on Thursday, July 22 at Sussex, Pavlik, 30, fired a complete-game, five-hit shutout to lead the Jackals to a 2-0 win over the Skyhawks and snap New Jersey’s three-game losing streak. In that contest, the left-hander struck out a season-high seven batters without surrendering a walk. He took a no-hitter into the fifth inning en-route to winning his second straight decision.

ARGENIS REYES SOLD TO THE BOSTON RED SOX

The New Jersey Jackals have sold infielder Argenis Reyes to the Boston Red Sox organization. The 27-year old will report to Boston’s Triple-A affiliate, the Pawtucket Red Sox of the International League.

In 33 games with the Jackals this season, Reyes batted .279 with two home runs and 15 RBIs. The native of Santiago, Dominican Republic had committed just two errors as the team’s starting second baseman.

FORMER JACKALS' PITCHER RAUL VALDES MAKES MAJOR LEAGUE DEBUT

Former New Jersey Jackals pitcher Raul Valdes made his Major League Debut on Sunday, April 11th for the New York Mets. Valdes entered the game in the sixth inning in the Mets game against the Washington Nationals. In two innings, Valdes was outstanding, only allowing two hits while striking out two. Valdes needed 36 pitches to get through the two innings of work with 25 of the pitches landing for strikes.

The New Jersey Jackals have had 19 players sign with a Major League organization since the beginning of the 2006 season. All with hopes of following Craig Breslow’s path to the bigs. For the start of the 2010 season, the Jackals have five players in affiliated baseball.
